The burning topic of sustainability is gaining traction, featuring increasingly in shifting business models and as a factor in technology development. How MediaTech is dealing with this is the topic of our opening talk: “Evolution and Revolution – Can Media Technologies Shape and Disrupt Society Sustainably?” This year, the MediaTech Hub Conference will for the first time feature a “double bill” opening talk: two fantastic speakers will be approaching this topic from very different perspectives – Mei Lin Fung and Santiago Siri. Mei Lin’s career has spanned several decades in global business, while Santi’s journey is that of a millennial – a true digital native. Take a look at their profiles below.
If you were looking for a role model for girls who want to take charge of their lives, you couldn’t do much better than Mei Lin Fung. Mei Lin has consistently stuck to her guns in terms of her values: diversity, inclusion, enablement and people-centricity. She has worked for some of the world’s largest organisations and set about disrupting them from within, developing new approaches based on irrefutable logic such that the only solution is to put them into practice. Women in tech? People-centred internet? Promoting SME financing, especially for female-run home industries? All of these fall within the ambit of Mei Lin’s encyclopaedic knowledge and experience. “When you go to a new frontier, things don’t always make sense. […] How things are now is only one part of the journey that we’re on.”
Mei Lin is a true visionary and will share her unique wisdom at #mthcon22 in the opening talk, as well as in the panel on stage 1 on green streaming and what is being done to reduce video’s ecological impact.
“Growing up in a country like Argentina exposes you to the tragedy of knowing that no matter how rich and vast your resources are, corruption and bad politics can ruin it all.” Driven by a
determination to change this, Santi realized that only a complete rethink powered by the global reach of the internet would make a difference. He believes that the emergence of cryptocurrency and
smart contracts have already activated this rethink, and especially young people are embracing the innovation these technological developments bring with them. When asked about the slump in
cryptocurrency value earlier this year, Santi commented, “The tourists have left the building!” In his opinion, those looking for quick profits haven’t grasped what Web3 is all about.
At #mthcon22, Santi will give insights into his empirical view of how the internet is transforming not only itself but potentially also the lives of every single person on the planet. In the
opening talk, he’ll be talking about Web3 and sustainability, and directly thereafter in his keynote talk on stage 2, he will shed light on the future of democracy and income in the blockchain
age. These are truly mind-blowing concepts – and they come straight from the horse’s mouth!
