Say “cartographer” and people are likely to think about dull geography classes or museum visits. But say “Evan Shapiro”, and you’re talking about someone whose creative visualisation talent makes an entire market look fascinating! Evan’s mapping of the Media Universe is a great example of how a multifaceted approach can make information accessible and entertaining at the same time. His streaming and video cosmos shifts constantly, depending on the changes taking place in the media industry, and how his heavenly bodies expand, contract and realign with one another “affect[s] the vibrancy and gravitational pull of the entire ecosystem.”
But even though Apple is among his “Trillion Dollar Death Stars”, Evan doesn’t believe that sheer size (although, he admits, “…it matters!”) will automatically keep the big players on top in the streaming and mediasphere. Although the term “streaming wars” is a familiar one, Evan likes to think of it as a balance, rather than a battle. And he’s very positive about the role creator content will play in the media galaxy of the future, as you’ll find out on Day 1, stage 1 in his keynote talk “The Future of Streaming, Now”.
