SUBITO – INSTANT PHOTOGRAPHY

After just a short wait, you're holding the snapshots in your hand. This jaunty camera has fascinated artists and photographers for over half a century and today, in the digital age, it quenches our desire for the unique, the real. Award-winning director Peter Volkart unfolds the fabulous history of this cultural phenomenon.
BERLIN 4 LOVERS
Berlin is a worldwide symbol for individual and sexual freedom. But with the appearance of the dating app ”Tinder“ another dimension showed up: An easy and uncomplicated way of dating someone you just met over your mobile phone. The documentary portrays ten metropolitans who are using the dating app. They reflect on their dating life, but more than that cover substantial topics of life in the big city: A portrait of Berlin's young and creative in technology's time.
IM STRAHL DER SONNE
North Korea is the most beautiful country in the world! That's what 8-year-old Zin-mi from Pyongyang hears every day from her parents, at school and over rumbling loudspeakers in the city's wide squares. Of course she believes it. With the utmost conviction, she pays homage to the "great leader" Kim Jong-un and eagerly prepares for her ceremonial acceptance into the Young Pioneers, which will finally make her a full-fledged member of the socialist state.
LOST RIVER
Single mother Billy lives with her two children, Bones and Franky, in Lost River, a desolate place that is increasingly becoming a ghost town as the housing crisis drives residents away. When Billy falls behind on her mortgage payments, she takes a chance on an idea from bank manager Dave. He tells her about a way to make ends meet for the time being: In order not to lose her house, Billy should work in his nightclub.
TANGERINE L.A.
It's Christmas Eve in Los Angeles, but instead of contemplation and charity, transsexual prostitute Sin-Dee has other things on her mind. After her twenty-eight-day prison sentence, she meets up with her friend Alexandra, who also works as a prostitute. But her initial euphoria fades when she learns that her pimp, who is also her lover, is cheating on her with another woman. The film by Sean Baker was shot entirely with an Iphone.
Mommy
Canada. The resolute Diane loves her 15-year-old son Steve more than anything, even though he drives her mad with his extreme outbursts of rage and violence. Since his father's death, Steve has been through a series of homes for difficult-to-educate children. Now he comes back to his mother because no one else can cope with him. With his demanding claim to the role of man of the house and his overflowing love for her, he puts his mother to the test. MOMMY was shot in the revolutionary 1:1 square image format.
