Michael Seemann studied Applied Cultural Science at the Leuphana University in Lüneburg and did his doctorate in Media Studies on the power of digital platforms. In 2014, he published the book "Das Neue Spiel, Strategien für die Welt nach dem digitalen Kontrollverlust" which was partly translated and published as "Digital Tailspin – Ten Rules for the Internet after Snowden" by the Institute of Network Cultures in Amsterdam. His third book, "Die Macht der Plattformen – Politik in Zeiten der Internetgiganten" was published in 2021.
He is a lecturer at the University of Cologne, the Berlin University of the Arts and the Leuphana University. In 2016, he was invited to address the German Bundestag as an expert on platform regulation. He regularly gives talks on several topics including whistleblowing, data privacy, copyright, internet culture, internet history and platforms. He is co-founder and board member of the Otherwise Network e.V. and has been on the board of the Grimme Forschungskolleg research group since 2017.
