Web3 has been defined as a new set of rails for the internet: decentralized, permissionless and run on tokens. But more than that, Web3 is part of a journey to taking back our identities. If Web 1.0 was decentralized and reader-only, Web 2.0 was the opposite: centralized and driven by user-created content. But by their very activities, users became transparent and trackable, to the extent that they became faceless items in Big Tech companies’ products.
Web3 represents a move to decentralization and SSID - Self-Sovereign Identity, giving individuals agency over their activities online. An architect of this new vision and of the Democracy Earth Foundation shares his thoughts.
